Feature Friday: Designer Highlight, Rachel Garletts
Jess and her husband ventured on their own Wandering Journey to Door County, WI this summer and came across this beautiful bead store with a very talented designer inside! We asked Rachel to share with us and now you can meet her too! My jewelry is a combination of old and new. I enjoy the experimental aspects of combining uncommon materials in new ways to create something that is truly unique. By combining contrasting colors, shapes and textures I further push my work into the category of the uncommon. My love for vintage costume jewelry stems from a childhood nostalgia. My grandmother’s collection of a century’s worth of designs is a constant inspiration as I attempt to invent future jewelry trends. I work almost entirely with antique brass and it is wonderful to have a provider like Vintaj that creates items that are a constant asset and inspiration to my continuing work.

Real Wedding: Megan + Ross’ Garden Party Australian Wedding
The necklace I am wearing with the red wedding dress is a cranberry stone from the Museum of Modern Art my mother gave me for my 30th. The bracelet is a 1930s antique pearl, ruby and diamond dragonfly motif that Ross gave me as a surprise present. My hair piece is 1950s vintage and my earrings are also vintage costume jewelry. My red wedding dress was handmade to spec by a friend, Noella Thompson, who has designed costumes for Patience Hodgson of The Grates, Sarah Blasko and Megan Washington. It was based on the dress from ‘Atonement’. (Funny side note: The strap of the dress broke in the middle of the ceremony during ‘the kiss’. Ross only just saved me from showing my breast to the entire audience. My sister pinned it back together with an antique brooch we had on the ring bag that seemed to be made for just that purpose and got on with the rest of the ceremony. It was hilarious and even though it was something going wrong, it was just so perfect for that moment.)

I just turned 21 last week and DIDNT EVEN DRINK A BEER and im doing drugs?! I cant even pay my rent and IM doing dugs. HAHAHAH I need help. We’re out about 6 grand because his mom: Quit her job Spent all her money on vintage costume jewelry, to “start her own business” and I mean like about 10 grand on FAKE crap, when her SON needs help. and now because she cant help us, shes trying to make us look bad? It’s 100% not our fault shes broke, but it is 100 % her fault we are. MY mom had to count change to help us pay rent…. and all his mom could do was tell people lies about us and tell him he can rot to death? How do I go about getting everything back? She deleted all the proof we had. However we still have the voicemail as well as a text admitting to going into his email and deleting them. PLEASE HELP

IKEA Kristaller Chandelier gets a little glamorous
Materials: Kristaller light fixture, vintage necklaces (pearl, glass beads, etc) Description: There is no rocket-science involved with this hack, but the simple act of adding vintage jewelry to a basic chandelier adds a lot of glamour! Thrift stores and garage sales are choc-full of vintage costume jewelry…ready for the picking. I stuck to mostly pearl beads, with a few turquoise necklaces added for a punch of color. The possibilities are endless, really. 1. Scrounge around second-hand stores for some vintage necklaces 2. String them up on your chandelier, changing them around as needed to balance the beads out on each side. 3. Sit back and admire your awesomeness! See more of the glamorized chandelier. ~ Tracey Kofoed, Canad

Creations
Yesterday was a Creations Day. Rainy and dreary, not a good garden day. A good day to work on my Spring “Poppy Beanie,” I’ve shown here several times. I’m working on the flowers now. So far, I’ve created four and used my pearl pins to stick them various places until I get to the craft store to buy sequins and beads. I kinda like the pearls though, yes? I used lightweight yarns in lavender, green, and blue, and a fluorescent-like green silk ribbon. The pattern calls for an antique type beaded flower, and I own several from my vintage-costume-jewelry phase some years back. I’m also considering beading a flower myself. Yesterday was also Create-a-Cookie Day here. Of course, all foods are Gluten-Free in this house because of son Jeff. I found a Linzer Torte GF cookie recipe online and made a batch of them, using my husband Gary’s homemade strawberry jam. Yummy. These turned out so deliciously good!

Day 6 of 12 Days of Christmas Cookies: Magic in the Middle Cookies
Meet Kathleen from Gonna Want Seconds ! I was so excited when I saw what she was going to post because I’ve been wanting to make these cookies for so long. Now here’s Kathleen… ******************************* Well, hello everyone and Merry Christmas! My name is Kathleen, and I am lucky enough to be guest blogging today for Christy, and the 12 days of Christmas Cookies. I am a home cook and my favorite place to be is in my kitchen cooking up a storm. I’m also a wife, mother, Bernese Mountain dog lover, friend, and reluctant exerciser. My blog is called Gonna Want Seconds. I started writing my blog because I was born with that crazy “food is my whole world“ gene and because cooking is how I show the people I care most about how much I love them! I’m obsessed with cookbooks, cooking mags, red wine and vintage costume jewelry. The recipes I post are all tried and true and most importantly, family approved! These cookies are a wonderful addition to any Christmas cookie tray.
